Patricia WhitmorePublic Nurse / Boston Health Commission / Boston, MA
“I’ve always been passionate about children and that hasn’t changed, ” says Patricia Whitworth, a public nurse with the Boston Health Commission. In honor of that unwavering commitment, the Commission has honored Pat with the prestigious Paul Revere Award. The award recognizes outstanding healthcare professionals whose work has dramatically improved the health of the Boston’s residents. Pat’s work has directly benefited Boston’s smallest residents. She began her career as a nurse and a midwife in England and continued her education in Massachusetts, earning a B.S. in Education at Lesley University and specializing in working with children with severe special needs. "Pat came to the Healthy Baby program in Boston just as it was starting up, 24 years ago. Today, she is a local and national resource on public health issues affecting pediatric and maternal health. "Our focus is on closing the gaps/reducing infant mortality and racial and ethnic health disparities”. We work with families, with a commitment to our under serviced populations who are at highest risk for poor birth and health outcomes. It's a tremendous challenge, but it's very rewarding." 1199SEIU members are committed to providing the highest quality of care and addressing the source of healthcare disparities. As a member of the ACT! Coalition, 1199SEIU is a sponsor of the recently-filed “Act to Eliminate Racial and Ethnic Health Disparities in the Commonwealth.”
